Larijani: Iran supports stability in Lebanon
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 6/23/2008

Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani said yesterday that Iran backs unity of all independent forces in Lebanon who are determined to restore stability in the country.

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with the Lebanese Head of the Southern Council, the Special Envoy of the Lebanese parliament and a member of Amal Movement Gablan Gablan on Sunday.

The Lebanese envoy heading a delegation conferred with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday afternoon on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.

According to Information and Press Bureau of the Majlis, at the meeting, the Lebanese envoy conveyed the sincere felicitation of Nabih Berri, members of Amal Movement as well as residents of southern Lebanon on his election as the speaker of Iranian Majlis.

Congratulating Larijani over the occasion, he said, "We evaluate the election as very significant and effective in the current sensitive juncture in the region." Praising the strategic role of Amal and Hizbollah movements in forging unity among resistance forces, he said, "Fortunately the unity among resistance forces is very consolidated and this is regarded as sign of further victories mainly after the 33-day war."

Larijani also accused western countries and the US in particular for trying to sow seeds of discord in order to further aggravate the current situation in Lebanon.

Iran fully backs resistance and unity of Lebanese nation, he said adding that the Iranian Parliament, as other institutions in the country, backs unity among independent forces in Lebanon fighting to restore stability in the country.

Larijani extended an invitation to his Lebanese counterpart to visit the Iran. The Lebanese envoy, for his part, expressed satisfaction over resolving the current problems in Lebanon in recent days and said there is no doubt that the Americans are not pleased with the agreements reached among Lebanese groups and are trying to create obstacles to continue sedition.

Subsequent victories of Lebanese people have roots in their unity, he said adding "We believe that Imam Musa Sadr laid the foundation of these victories." The Lebanese envoy thanked Iran for the spiritual support for the unity and resistance of the Lebanese people.
