Iraq welcomes Iran-Iraq security understanding

Iraq's Defense Ministry welcomes security memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and Iraq during the recent visit of Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to Iran.
The agreement focuses on clearing mine fields, recovering the remains of killed soldiers and setting border lines between the two countries, the Iraqi press on Saturday quoted the country's Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Mohammed al-Askari as saying.
Al-Askari said that given that the victims of explosive devices are mainly civilian people mine sweeping operation is of utmost importance.
He also stressed the need for establishment of joint committees by the two countries to identify and recover the remains of soldiers killed in the eight-year Iran-Iraq war.
The Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman asserted that Iran-Iraq security Memo Of Understanding revolves around mutual cooperation and is not a binding accord for both sides.
Meantime, The US ambassador to the UN Zalmay Khalilzad repeated the US allegations against Iran such as Iran's role in training and arming certain Iraqi extremist forces. Khalilzad's statements to the UN Security Council were responded by Iran's permanent representative at the UN.
Iranian Permanent Ambassador to United Nations Mohammad Khazaee respondded saying Iran has repeatedly become the victim of terrorist operations and has always condemned such operations in the neighboring Iraq." "A secure, safe and stable Iraq will undoubtedly benefit Iran and the entire region," his statement said.
"Iran would spare no effort to help the Iraqi government and nation establish peace, security and stability." Condemning the US allegations against Tehran, it said, "Washington has not been able to present even one document proving its anti-Iran allegations.
